On 6th October 2026, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made three big announcements in the Cabinet meeting at Nabanna. The government has approved 14,454 new government posts, increased the salary of Karmabandhu workers from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000, and most importantly, approved the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme 2026. This scheme is currently the No. 1 trending yojana in West Bengal on Google, YouTube and Facebook. Everyone is searching for it. What is Bhagini Nivedita Scheme? Latest Trending Update This scheme is named after Sister Nivedita, who was a pioneer of women's education in Bengal. The main aim is to stop girls from dropping out of college after Higher Secondary due to money problems. According to the official Cabinet announcement, the scheme will give total Rs 50,000 to unmarried women who are pursuing higher education in colleges and universities of West Bengal. The money will not be given at once. It will be given in 3 installments: First Year - Rs 17,000 Second Year - Rs 17,000 Third Year - Rs 16,000 Total = Rs 50,000 The government also announced that the monthly food allowance for SC and ST students living in government hostels has been increased from Rs 1,800 to Rs 3,300. This shows the government is focusing on education. When Will Application Start? Important Dates The application has NOT started yet. The Cabinet has only approved the scheme. As per reports, the scheme will be implemented from January 2027. So online application is expected to start in December 2026 - January 2027. Full Eligibility Criteria 2026 You must fulfill all these conditions, otherwise your form will be rejected: 1. Permanent Resident: You must be a permanent resident of West Bengal for at least 5 years. You will need a Domicile Certificate. 2. Only for Unmarried Women: This is the most important rule. The official press note says "Rs 50,000 assistance to unmarried women pursuing higher education". If you get married during the 3-year course, your next installment will be stopped. 3. Must Be a College Student: You must be studying in an Undergraduate Course (BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, etc.) in a Government or Government-aided College or University under the Higher Education Department of West Bengal. Private college students are not eligible. 4. Age Limit: Your age should be between 18 to 27 years as on 1st January 2027. 5. Family Income: Your family annual income should be less than Rs 3 Lakh. If you have BPL card, Swasthya Sathi card or SC/ST/OBC certificate, you will get preference. 6. Academic Qualification: You must have passed Higher Secondary (HS) with at least 50% marks. Step by Step Once the portal opens in January 2027, the process will be like this: Step 1: Go to the official website - wb.gov.in or banglaruchchashiksha.wb.gov.in Step 2: On the homepage, you will see a banner "Bhagini Nivedita Scheme 2026 - Apply Online". Click on it. Step 3: Click on "New Registration" and verify your mobile number with OTP. Step 4: Login and fill the full application form - Your name, father's name, address, college name, course name, year, bank details, etc. Step 5: Upload all the documents mentioned above. Step 6: Check everything carefully and click on "Final Submit". You will get a 14-digit Application ID. Save it or take a screenshot. You will need it to check status. Offline Process: If you cannot apply online, you can contact your college office. Every government college will have a help desk for this scheme from December 2026. How to Check Application Status?
